If you've booked a consultation for penile filler, you might assume the next step is having the treatment.
That's not always the case.
At Alpha Male Clinic, a consultation isn't a sales appointment and treatment is never guaranteed simply because you've asked for it.
Our first responsibility is to assess whether penile filler is appropriate for you, whether it can realistically achieve what you're looking for and whether we're comfortable treating you.
Sometimes, the right medical advice is to say no.
Your expectations aren't realistic
One of the most important parts of your consultation is understanding what you want to achieve.
Penile filler can increase girth, but there are limits to what treatment can realistically deliver. Your existing anatomy also plays an important role in determining what may be achievable.
If your expectations go beyond what we believe treatment can safely or realistically provide, we'll tell you.
That conversation may mean adjusting your expectations or discussing a more appropriate approach. In some cases, it may mean deciding not to treat at all.
We would rather have an honest conversation before treatment than promise a result we don't believe we can deliver.
There may be a medical reason not to treat you
Penile filler is a medical procedure, so your health and medical history matter.
Your consultation gives us an opportunity to understand relevant medical conditions, medication and previous procedures, and to identify anything that could affect your suitability for treatment.
If we identify a reason why proceeding may not be appropriate, we'll explain it to you.
Depending on the circumstances, that could mean delaying treatment, asking for further information or advising you not to proceed.
Your safety comes before the procedure.
More filler isn't always the answer
Some men come to us with a particular volume of filler already in mind.
Perhaps you've seen a package advertised online, compared before-and-after photographs or read about somebody else's treatment.
But somebody else's treatment plan isn't necessarily right for you.
The amount of filler we recommend is based on your individual anatomy and goals. If we don't believe a higher volume is appropriate, we won't recommend it simply because you've requested it.
Treatment should be proportionate to the individual.
You may need more time to think
Sometimes there isn't a medical reason preventing treatment. You might simply not be ready to make the decision yet.
That's okay.
Many of our patients spend weeks or months researching penile filler before deciding whether to proceed.
If you're uncertain, have unanswered questions or feel you need more time, we'd encourage you to take it.
There should be no pressure to make a decision simply because you've attended a consultation.
Not sure whether this applies to you?
The self-assessment takes about a minute and is reviewed by a doctor before your consultation.
Your reasons for wanting treatment matter
Penile filler is often about more than physical appearance.
For some men, concerns about penis size have affected their confidence for years. Others may be thinking about treatment following changes in their relationships, dating life or how they feel about their body.
We take those motivations seriously.
Part of a responsible consultation is understanding what you hope will change as a result of treatment.
A physical procedure can't guarantee a particular change in your relationships, sex life or how you feel about yourself. If we believe your expectations of treatment extend beyond what the procedure itself can reasonably achieve, that's a conversation we need to have before going any further.
You may be better suited to a different approach
Saying no to one treatment doesn't necessarily mean there are no options available to you.
Depending on what you're hoping to achieve, we may recommend a different treatment plan, a more conservative approach or simply taking more time before making a decision.
The aim isn't to fit every patient into the same treatment.
It's to understand what you want, assess what's appropriate and give you an honest medical recommendation.
Saying no is part of good medical care
Dr Mustafa Ganijee, Founder of Alpha Male Clinic, said:
Patients sometimes arrive expecting that because they've booked a consultation, treatment will automatically follow. That's not how we approach it.
My responsibility as a doctor is to decide whether I believe treatment is appropriate for that individual patient. That means looking at their anatomy and medical history, but also understanding what they're hoping the treatment will achieve.
There are occasions when I'll advise somebody to wait, recommend a different approach or tell them I don't think they should have the treatment at all. That isn't turning a patient away. It's part of providing responsible medical care.
A consultation should help you make a decision
You don't need to arrive at Alpha Male Clinic having already decided that penile filler is right for you.
That's what the consultation is there to help establish.
We'll discuss your goals, assess your suitability, explain what treatment involves and give you a realistic understanding of what may be achievable.
You can ask questions, take time to consider your options and decide not to proceed.
And if we don't think treatment is right for you, we'll be honest about that too.
