For many men considering penile filler, it's not the treatment itself that raises the most questions. It's what happens afterwards.
How much swelling is normal? When will everything look settled? And when can you get back to everyday life?
Recovery varies from person to person, but knowing what to expect can make the process feel much more straightforward.
At Alpha Male Clinic, aftercare is part of your treatment, not an afterthought. You'll receive clear guidance before you leave the clinic and have access to our medical team if you're concerned about anything during your recovery.
The first 24 hours
Immediately after treatment, some swelling, tenderness and bruising can be expected.
Your penis may also look or feel different from the final result at this stage. This is normal: the filler needs time to settle and early swelling can temporarily affect its appearance.
We'll explain how to look after the treated area and what you should avoid before you leave the clinic.
The most important thing at this stage is to follow your individual aftercare instructions rather than judging the final result too early.
The first few days
During the first few days, swelling and tenderness should begin to settle.
You may still notice some unevenness while the filler and surrounding tissue settle. Again, this early stage isn't necessarily representative of your final result.
This is also a period when following your aftercare guidance carefully matters.
If anything doesn't feel right, or you're simply unsure whether what you're experiencing is normal, speak to us. We'd always rather you ask than spend several days worrying about something on your own.
The first week
As your recovery progresses, the treated area should begin to feel more settled and you'll start to get a better idea of the result.
That doesn't necessarily mean everything will have reached its final appearance.
Your recovery is individual, and we'll advise you about returning to activities such as exercise and sexual activity based on your treatment and how you're healing.
Don't rush your recovery because you feel well. Giving the area time to settle is an important part of the treatment process.
Not sure whether this applies to you?
The self-assessment takes about a minute and is reviewed by a doctor before your consultation.
The following weeks
Over the following weeks, residual swelling should continue to settle and the filler should integrate more naturally with the surrounding tissue.
This is a much better point at which to assess your result than immediately after treatment.
If anything needs reviewing, we can assess how the filler has settled and discuss the appropriate next step.
Some patients may eventually choose further treatment, while for others no additional treatment is needed.
The important point is that decisions about adding more filler should be made once the existing treatment has been properly assessed, not rushed during the early stages of recovery.
What's normal and when should you contact us?
Some temporary swelling, tenderness and bruising can occur following filler treatment.
However, penile filler is still a medical procedure and complications can occur. Published research has reported issues including nodules, filler migration and infection following penile augmentation with hyaluronic acid filler.
We'll explain the warning signs you need to look out for as part of your aftercare.
If you're worried about pain, swelling, changes in the skin or anything else during your recovery, contact the clinic rather than trying to diagnose or treat the problem yourself.
Where clinically appropriate, our medical team can assess complications and prescribe treatment if required.
Aftercare should be part of your treatment
Dr Mustafa Ganijee, Founder of Alpha Male Clinic, said:
Patients understandably focus on what happens during penile filler treatment, but what happens afterwards is just as important.
Everybody heals differently, which is why we give patients clear aftercare guidance and remain available if they have concerns during their recovery.
My advice is not to judge your result too quickly. Swelling and other early changes need time to settle. And if something doesn't feel right, contact us. Good aftercare means knowing that medical support is there when you need it.
Preparing for your recovery
Before having penile filler, think beyond the appointment itself.
Make sure you understand what your recovery is likely to involve, whether you'll need to adjust your plans afterwards and how you'll access medical support if you have a concern.
At Alpha Male Clinic, we'll talk you through treatment and recovery before you decide to proceed. That way, you know what to expect from the entire process – not just the time you spend in the treatment room.
